Southerleigh Fine Food & Brewery
Texas Cross-cultural Cuisine and Craft Brewery
Named for the prevailing Gulf breeze and the Texas coast's proud sense of place, Southerleigh serves Chef Jeff Balfour's modern take on Texas' cross-cultural cuisine. Influenced by the coastal classics of Chef Balfour’s upbringing in Galveston married with the comfort of southern cuisine, Southerleigh boasts a curated, seasonally shifting menu that reflects Chef Balfour’s innovative craftsmanship. Housed in the historic Pearl brewhouse, Southerleigh brings brewing back to Pearl, offering 15 different beers on tap.
More About Us
Southerleigh taps into the building’s past life as a brewery with a rotating selection of beers, such as the crisp and floral Darwinian IPA. Jeff Balfour, like more and more brewery chefs, has upgraded a classic bar menu.
Southerleigh Fine Food & Brewery brought beer back to the Pearl when it opened in 2014, with as many as 14 styles. The beer complements the Gulf Coast cooking of chef Jeff Balfour, whose fried snapper throats could be called chicken of the sea. His fried chicken, meanwhile, takes on a Southern charm with golden biscuits and crab macaroni and cheese.
The broad and easily navigable menu features hearty fare — oxtail pie, steak, and fried chicken, plus an array of fish and seafood — as well as unique smaller plates such as roasted beets and a wood-fired pretzel, all with recommended beer pairings. Housed in the old Pearl Brewery itself, Southerleigh is as much worth visiting for its architecture, ambience, and design as it is for its consistently good food.
